INDIGENOUS AMERICAN PHILOSOPHY

NEO-TAINO YUCAYEQUE (south campus only)

OUR AZUA NEO-TAINO EDUCATIONAL RESERVE: A ROLE-PLAY IMMERSION

Our educational reserve is not a 'housing reservation'; our village (Yucayeque in the Arawak language) is a role-play (immersive) learning environment/tool which encompasses most aspects of the lost Taino cosmovision (as we have posthumously learned), which is incomplete and further extrapolated/adapted into our college's various studies of Indigenous Philosophy and the Azua community at-large: Our culturally-adjusted re-enactments consist of:

1. The physical world of the Taino: a time capsule from a recent pre-Columbian period (circa 1490 ad). This includes the village's ecology & landscape architectures, milpa-based agriculture, bohíos, house furnishings, face painting, jewelry, tools & weapons.

2. The sociocultural (cosmovision) of the Taino: government, culture, belief system, value systems, gender roles, animals.

CACIQUES: in our model, 1 cacique for every 1,000 members. A new tribe must be created after 1,000 members; tribal chief is revered as a type of king, responsible for the tribe's mayor decisions. Moreu College provides constitutional safeguards involving the cacique power and the power of his entourage of Nitaínos.

NITAINOS: in our model, 20 Nitaínos oversee 1000 commoners - aka: overlords or nobility. Each Nitaíno is a village leader for 50 tribal members and is totally subservient to the Cacique. Nitainos supervise commoners on a variety of communal activities, related to, farming, village security, building, clearing forests, ball-court-team organizing, animal care, care for ceremonial sites, housekeeping for quests, special village projects, areyto preparations, music, scouting & guides for quests, etc.

BOHIQUES: in our model, 3 individuals - aka: medicine doctors to the village & advisors to the Cacique, as well as thematic (religious) assistants to the Nitaínos. Bohíques care for the village's cemís and assist all Vision Quests.
